1. About These Terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of A Scholar, a Singapore-based exam-readiness service that provides physical practice papers and a digital marking interface for Primary school students ("the Service"), operated by Ian Ba ("we", "us", "our").

By subscribing to A Scholar, you ("parent", "guardian", or "you") agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not subscribe.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore.

2. The Service

The Service is designed for Primary 3 Mathematics at launch. Additional levels and subjects may be added over time.

What The Service Is Not

A Scholar is not a tutoring service, an adaptive learning platform, or a school replacement programme. It is an exam-conditioning tool to be used alongside your child's regular schooling.

We make no guarantee of specific academic outcomes, examination results, or school performance.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to subscribe.

By subscribing, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child you are enrolling, or that you otherwise have lawful authority to provide consent for the child.

You also agree to the collection and use of your child's data as described in the Privacy Policy and Parent / Guardian Consent Form.

4. Subscription And Payment

4a. Subscription Plans

  • Annual Plan - billed in full for a 12-month subscription period.
  • Monthly Plan - billed monthly, with each billing cycle covering one practice paper unless otherwise stated.
  • One-Time Packs - billed once at purchase and not recurring.

Current pricing is published on www.ascholar.academy.

We may change pricing for future subscription periods by giving at least 30 days' written notice to the email address on your account, unless the pricing change applies only to new subscribers or new purchases.

4b. Billing

Payment is processed securely through the payment provider and method shown at checkout. We do not store card details.

By subscribing to an Annual Plan, you authorise us to charge, collect, or request payment of the full annual fee at the time of purchase.

By subscribing to a Monthly Plan, you authorise us to charge, collect, or request payment of the monthly fee at the start of each billing cycle until cancelled.

4c. Renewals

Annual subscriptions do not renew automatically unless the checkout or renewal terms expressly say otherwise.

Monthly subscriptions continue until cancelled in accordance with Section 9.

4d. Failed Payments

If a payment fails, expires, is not completed, or requires customer action that is not completed in time, we may notify you by email. Access to future paper dispatches and digital service features may be paused until payment is resolved.

4e. Promotional Pricing, Founding Member Rates, And Referral Credits

From time to time, we may offer discounted pricing, locked-in rates, referral credits, or other promotional terms ("Promotional Terms").

Promotional Terms are governed by the offer details published at the time and form part of these Terms for participating subscribers.

Unless a specific offer says otherwise:

  • Founding Member rates remain in effect only while the subscription remains continuously active.
  • A lapse, cancellation, or break in subscription ends eligibility for the Founding Member rate.
  • Referral or ambassador credits have no cash value and are non-transferable.
  • Credits are issued only after the referred subscriber's payment has been successfully processed.
  • We may withhold or reverse credits obtained through fraudulent, abusive, or self-referral activity.

If A Scholar discontinues a subscription tier or materially changes the subscription structure, affected Founding Members will be offered the closest available equivalent where reasonably possible, or a pro-rated refund or credit for unused subscription value where required by these Terms or applicable law.

If a one-time pack includes a published credit toward a future Annual Plan, that credit will be governed by the offer details published at the time of purchase. The credit has no cash value unless expressly stated.

5. Delivery Of Physical Papers

5a. Delivery Schedule

Practice papers are dispatched by post according to the subscription or pack schedule.

Delivery is via SingPost or an appointed mailing partner to your registered Singapore mailing address.

Estimated delivery is 3 to 7 business days from dispatch, unless otherwise stated.

5b. Delivery Address

You are responsible for ensuring your registered mailing address is accurate and up to date.

We are not liable for papers lost or undelivered due to an incorrect address.

To update your address before the next dispatch date, contact hello@ascholar.academy.

5c. Lost Or Damaged Papers

If your practice paper is lost in transit or arrives damaged, contact us within 14 days of the expected delivery date.

We will arrange a replacement at no additional cost, subject to reasonable verification and stock availability.

5d. Missed Dispatches

If we are unable to dispatch a paper in a given month due to circumstances within our control, we will notify you and either dispatch it as soon as reasonably possible or provide the affected month at no charge.

6. Digital Marking Interface

6a. QR Code And Paper Code Access

Each physical practice paper may include a unique QR code and a printed paper code.

You may access the digital marking interface for that paper by scanning the QR code or by visiting www.ascholar.academy/redeem and entering the paper code.

Access is tied to your parent account and the specific paper.

For papers already dispatched, digital marking and answer-review access remains valid until the access period for that paper expires, even if the subscription is later cancelled, unless access is suspended or revoked for breach, fraud, legal, operational, or security reasons.

The applicable access period may be shown in the app or communicated with the paper. If not separately stated, A Scholar's system may keep paper review access available for up to 13 months after the relevant cycle or access window, subject to account status and security controls.

6b. Marking And Answers

Worked answers and explanations are revealed only after you have submitted your child's marks through the interface.

Once submitted, marks cannot be changed unless A Scholar later implements an approved correction workflow.

6c. Account Access

You are responsible for keeping your account login details secure.

Do not share your account with other parents or guardians not enrolled in the Service.

Each subscription covers one child unless the plan expressly says otherwise.

6d. Availability

We aim to keep the digital marking interface available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

Planned maintenance will be communicated in advance where reasonably possible.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree to use A Scholar only for supporting your child's exam preparation.

You must not:

  • share, reproduce, or distribute practice papers or their contents
  • use practice paper content for commercial purposes, including tutoring services
  • attempt to access, copy, scrape, or extract question bank content or system internals
  • allow unauthorised persons to access your account
  • attempt to bypass QR, paper code, parent ownership, payment, or access controls

Breach of these conditions may result in suspension or cancellation of your subscription without refund.

8. Intellectual Property

All practice paper content, including questions, worked answers, explanations, diagrams, layout, and the A Scholar brand, belongs to A Scholar or its licensors.

You are granted a personal, non-transferable licence to use the content for your child's private study only.

Nothing in these Terms grants you ownership of any content.

You may not reproduce or distribute any part of the practice papers without our prior written consent.

9. Cancellation And Refunds

9a. Cancellation - Annual Plan

You may cancel your Annual Plan by emailing hello@ascholar.academy.

Cancellation stops future paper dispatch after the subscription period or cancellation-effective date stated by A Scholar.

Papers already dispatched are not recalled. Digital marking and answer-review access already issued for dispatched papers remains available until the access period for that paper expires, unless suspended or revoked for breach, fraud, legal, operational, or security reasons.

9b. Cancellation - Monthly Plan

You may cancel your Monthly Plan by emailing hello@ascholar.academy.

To avoid being charged for the following month, your cancellation request must be received by the last day of your current billing month, unless the published plan terms state a different cutoff.

If a cancellation request is received after a paper for that month has already been dispatched, the monthly fee for that month applies and no refund is issued.

Cancellation takes effect from the following billing cycle.

9c. Refunds - Annual Plan

Within 14 days of purchase, if no paper has been dispatched, we will issue a full refund net of non-recoverable payment processing fees charged by the payment provider shown at checkout.

After 14 days, or after the first paper has been dispatched, no cash refund is available unless required by law or expressly agreed by A Scholar.

Instead, we may issue a credit for the value of undelivered months, calculated as:

Credit = (number of months remaining / 12) x amount paid at purchase

Credits are redeemable against A Scholar products or future subscriptions, valid for 18 months from the date of issue, non-transferable, and have no cash value.

9d. Refunds - Monthly Plan

Monthly Plan payments are non-refundable once a paper has been dispatched for that billing cycle.

No partial refunds are issued within a billing cycle.

If no paper has been dispatched in the current cycle and you have submitted a cancellation request before the applicable cutoff, no charge will be applied for that cycle where operationally possible.

9e. Refunds - One-Time Packs

One-time packs are non-refundable once any paper in the pack has been dispatched.

If you request cancellation before any paper has been dispatched, we will issue a refund net of payment processing fees if the request is received within 7 days of purchase, unless the offer terms say otherwise.

9f. Payment Processing Fees

Cash refunds are issued net of non-recoverable payment processing fees incurred at the time of the original transaction.

Credits issued under these Terms are not subject to fee deduction unless the offer terms say otherwise.

9g. Lost Or Damaged Papers

A lost or damaged paper entitles you to a replacement where Section 5c applies. It does not automatically create a refund right.

9h. Cancellation By Us

We may cancel or suspend your subscription with immediate effect if you breach these Terms, especially Section 7.

In such cases, no refund or credit will be issued unless required by law.

If we cancel your subscription for reasons within our control and unrelated to your breach, we will issue a pro-rated credit or refund for undelivered months where appropriate.

10. Legal Acceptance Evidence

By subscribing, accepting updated Terms, accepting the Privacy Policy, providing child-data consent, or making any related legal acknowledgement, you agree that A Scholar may record acceptance evidence.

  • parent account/profile identifier
  • child/student identifier where child-specific
  • document or agreement type
  • document version
  • accepted_at timestamp with timezone
  • withdrawn_at timestamp if later withdrawn
  • source UI/action
  • IP address where technically and legally appropriate
  • user agent where technically and legally appropriate
  • audit log or system record linkage

This record is used to prove what you accepted, which version you accepted, and when you accepted it, including in the event of a dispute.

11. Limitation Of Liability

  • We are not liable for any academic outcome, examination result, or school performance.
  • We are not liable for delays or failures caused by postal carriers, payment providers, hosting providers, or other third parties outside our reasonable control.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid for your current subscription period.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded under Singapore law.

12. Force Majeure

A Scholar is not liable for delay or failure to perform obligations caused by events outside our reasonable control, including natural disasters, postal disruption, platform outages, payment provider outages, cyber incidents, regulatory action, labour disruption, war, pandemic, or other events beyond reasonable control.

Where such an event materially affects your subscription, we will take reasonable steps to resume service or provide an appropriate credit, replacement, or adjustment where fair and operationally possible.

13. Changes To The Service And Terms

We may update, modify, or discontinue parts of the Service over time.

If we make material changes that reduce the value of your active subscription, we will notify you and may offer a pro-rated credit or refund for the affected period where appropriate.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you by email before material changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
